April – September 2022
Various locations throughout Scotland
Unexpected Gardens will spring up across Scotland in unusual places, taking over patches of unused or (apparently) unusable land.
From the Borders to the Highlands, along Scotland’s canals to urban, rural and island locations, whether indoors or open-air, on unused or forgotten land; these gardens will show that even the unlikeliest space can bloom. Both surprising spaces to visit and productive growing hubs, each garden will host seasonal events, installations, and grow herbs and vegetables for the whole community to share at its local Harvest festival in September 2022.
Delivered in partnership with arts venues and community organisations, the gardens will be established in locations across Scotland including Caithness, Ross-Shire, Moray, Uist, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Scottish Borders, Dumfries & Galloway, Inverclyde, Argyll & Bute and Fife, alongside a ‘floating garden’ moored in Falkirk and touring the canal network.
