Unexpected Garden: Rich, Rich Soil - Hawick

A closeup of a pair of hands picking off petals from a dandelion flower. One finger is adorned with a decorative ring bearing three tumbled gemstones. The fingernails are painted red. The background shows a pile of yellow petals.

Working in partnership with community gardens in Hawick, Alchemy Film & Arts is producing a series of events and projects around themes of gardening, growing, food and film.

Our supper club project, Tea Time, organised in collaboration with Burnfoot Community Hub, will give attendees ideas about how to create a meal using vegetables and herbs which are grown in the community garden.

As a fairly new growing site, Hawick's Community Food Garden is working on ways in which to make the garden more inviting and visually appealing. To support this, we are working on a mural project which involves young people who will submit their dream garden designs, which will act as inspiration for the artist who will paint the final mural design.

Naturally, an integral part of our approach to the project is to incorporate a filmic element, and so we are currently in the process of organising film screenings in relation to themes of gardening, growing, food and community.
